The five tools of truth and accountability

Revolutions provide education and practice in these tools.



The elephant and the glass prism

Knowledge: We cannot see the world directly. The incoming world is generalised, deleted and distorted to fit our beliefs. First we believe, then we see the world through our beliefs.

Skill: Recognising our confirmation biases and working with cognitive dissonance. Learning to see the world is a mirror. Learning to spot the my repeating patterns in the world.

The five-pointed compass

Knowledge: Understanding the emotions we can feel. A meaningful map that coordinates the primary emotions of anger, grief, fear, joy and shame.

Skill: Recall and express stories and events that evoke the five core emotions. Locate each of the emotions in your body. Develop in-the-moment awareness of rising emotions.



The chisel and the blade

Knowledge: Understanding that our language shapes our reality. Understand how consciously adopting new language and making new distinctions sculpt pathways through our worlds.

Skill: Speaking our truth with clean and careful language. Noticing where our wording becomes vague or protracted to protect us from feeling our truth.  

The unblinking eye

Knowledge: Understanding the impact of seeing and being seen. Understand the difference between simply knowing the truth and having your truth witnessed by the circle.

Skill: Listening deeply and without judgement. Notice the rising and falling urge to comment, validate, question, highlight, compete, rescue - all strategies to avoid the truth.



The lasso with two nooses

Knowledge: Understanding our psychological twins and how they inhabit others. Understand how we split off aspects of our self that we judge unacceptable and so see them in others.

Skill: Identifying and owning our psychological projections. Coming to know the specific parts of ourselves - good and bad - that we tend to be unwilling or unable to see in ourselves.
